Small Deeds Done
“Small Deeds done are better than great deeds planned.” – Peter Marshall
Small deeds are never glamorous, but they always add up when consistently done. In our families, we want that one big thing. If we did this, it would change our family overnight. There is no get rich quick route to family success or success in general. It always comes in the form of thousands of small deeds.
Think about the consistent small deeds you have the chance to do every day. Something as small as saying I love you to those around you. Think about if you did this small action every day. Your family members heard this at least 365 times a year. Year after year, when you accompany this with small steps will have an impact for sure. They will know they love you.
The small deed of taking time each day to listen to what is important to them. Think of the relationship you would have if you simply listen and take an interest in helping where you can. I see these small deeds with my wife every day as she takes the time to help our kids with their school work. My daughter has a particular skill of taking something that should take 5 minutes and making it take 5 hours. Someone must have told her school pays by the hour because she is stretching that time.
Her mother is there with her every step of the way and keeps her cool to get her down the path of school. There is nothing glamorous about this small deed, but even if she does not see it, she impacts my daughter achieving her potential.
Small deeds require consistency and a long term outlook. Make bit plans for what you want to achieve, but don’t forget that plans only come to light through consistent small deeds. Your family does not need you to change the world in one day. It needs you to change their world for just a few minutes or even a few seconds each day with small deeds.
