Passion for the Mission

You can’t be a great leader unless you are passionate about the mission.

Great leaders have a passion for what they do. They understand where they are going and are all bought into lead, follow, and work to get everyone they can to the family’s mission. The funny thing about a family leader’s passion is this drive can be one of the easiest things to have and the hardest, depending on the day.

It is so easy to have that passion when you can see the progress of yourself and, more importantly, those in your family you support. There is just something special seeing those you love to have those moments where they reach out and touch their potential. Where they find their strengths and make things happen because of who they are. These are the moments when parenting pays off. The moments that show us it is all worthwhile and gives us the passion for wanting to do more.

While these moments of success are by far the ones we remember and the ones that help us keep driving for those we love, the moments of pulling your hair out might be much more prevalent in our lives. These are the moments when we may struggle with a passion for parenting. We have to understand it is these moments of frustration are the ones that make the great moments even sweeter. The ones that keep us coming back for more.

Much like my golf game, I only need one good shot out of the 200 I took on those last nine holes to keep me playing for the next 9. If you are struggling with passion, think back on those sweet moments. Write them down when you have them to go back and read them when you need that pick me up. When you find yourself without that passion, think of how you can serve someone in your family. In the family serving leads to those great moments which lead to passion. Find your passion for why you love your family, and the leadership will follow.
