The Vision to Plant Seeds

If your vision is for a year, plant wheat. If your vision is for ten years, plant trees. If your vision is for a lifetime, plant people.  -Chinese Proverb To have a harvest, you have to plant some seeds. How many seeds do you think a farmer plants to have a successful harvest? The same is true in the world of parent leadership. Leadership is about planting seeds and then tending to the weeds each day.  In many cases, that is what a good leader does. Tend to the weeds every day. If there ever was a labor of love, it is tending to the weeds of stoping your kids from fighting for the fourth time today. We work with Read more…

Life Happens For Us

Life is happening for us, not to us. Tony Robbins   Our life changes when we start looking at it as happening for us and to us. When life is happening for us, our mindset changes, and we begin to look for ways to use situations to help us grow. We start to see ways to make any situation turn to our advantage.  I think we can all say this is easier said than done. Sometimes life is hard, and we don’t know why things are happening to make things difficult for us. When life happens for you, it does not mean that it is all sunshine and rainbows. Consistency

Consistency is just flat out hard—even the simple things. I have had the goal to read something that would build me up each day for the last ten years or so. This daily struggle has taught me a lot about greatness. Greatness is more about doing something good over and over than it is about one simple Read more…

I watched them tearing a building down, A gang of men in a busy town. With a ho-heave-ho and lusty yell, They swung a beam, and a sidewall fell. I asked the foreman, “Are these men skilled, The men you’d hire if you had to build?” He gave me a laugh and said, “No indeed! Just common labor is all I need. I can easily wreck in a day or two What builders have taken a year to do.” And I thought to myself as I went my way, Which of these two roles have I tried to play? Am I a builder who works with care, Measuring life by the rule and square? Am I shaping my deeds by Read more…

Expect Progress Not Perfection

Our expectation for perfection in ourselves on a daily basis is killing us. We can like others for who they are when we don’t expect them to be perfect. The same is true with ourselves. When we give up the expectation for our own perfection, we start to like who we are. In today’s perfect filtered world, we see hundreds of images a day of those perfect moments in others’ lives. We layer in our own lives expectations of perfection. While it is fair to strive for greatness, we need to understand it is a process. The funny thing about greatness is the only road there is full of imperfection. The only way to become great is to build Read more…
