Imperfect Progress
Imperfect progress beats postponed perfection. – Mark Twain
If there is one thing common to all great parent leaders, it has to be imperfect progress. Great people and great leaders are not perfect. If you talk to any one of them, they will be the first to point out any of the things they are still working on to be better.
You will find one thing in common with people who don’t impact those within their influence, great intentions. We all want to be great, and the intention is there. Many of us make the mistake of waiting for the perfect moment when we become the perfect person.
Don’t Wait For Perfection
You will never be perfect. Because even when you think you are perfect, your fault is you are not humble. 🙂 Set out each day not to be perfect but to be imperfect in your progression. Become better, not perfect. Your family does not need you to be perfect. They need you to be perfectly imperfect in your progress to become better for them.
Sometimes you will slip and fall. This is part of imperfect progress. Sometimes we have to lose to learn the things that will make us better. No one is born great. We are all born with the potential for greatness, but we have to do many things really bad to learn what it takes to be great. It is all part of the process.
As parents, we often find ourselves doing things the wrong way, or we can be better in a manner we know. But that is what better is—improving on what you did before. So understand that we need to be imperfect to make progress to be great. Learn from where you were and set out each day on your quest for imperfect progress to become the person you should be and who your family needs.
