Leadership starts in the home

2 Minute Drill

If you can do it in less than 2 minutes, do it now.

There is a good rule of practice that is often heard in the business world to help you get things done. We will call it the 2 minute drill. It can be used in our growth as parent leaders in two ways. The first is to get the little things done.

If you can do it in 2 minutes or less, do it now. If there is something out there that you can do in 2 minutes or less, don’t put it off. Get it done now. It might be something simple like straightening up. Don’t put it off until things pile up and it takes hours to clean. Anything you can do in 2 minutes or less, just do it now. Make that call, or send that text to build a relationship. Help your child with that little thing they have been asking for. Have that quick conversation to build them up. These will be the best 2 minutes you invest in the day.

The second way to use the 2-minute drill is to help you develop habits that will make you better. Do you have a hard time reading things that will help you grow as a person. Do it for just 2 minutes today. Starting a goal does not mean you have to go out and run a 5k. Start by doing a micro work out for 2 minutes at different times throughout the day.

As you start these 2-minute behaviors, you will find yourself taking more than just two minutes. Two minutes lead to five, and five minutes can lead you down the road of making a consistent daily habit. Start changing your life and the culture in your home in just 2 minutes a day.
